Wix has a popular partner program offering affiliates cash for promoting wix to their audiences. If you’re a brand and you are curious about how to set this up for your own company so you can attract partners to promote your products and services, you’re in the right place.

Wix describes themselves as a powerful, no code website builder. You can build simple websites, or complex enterprise websites depending on what you are looking for, and their offering includes templates, a video maker, a photo studio, AI and more.

Key takeaways:

  • Partner programs are a fantastic way to drive revenue and engagement
  • The rewards for your partners do not only have to be financial
  • Testing is an essential step to the success of your program

What is a Partner Program?

A partner program is set up similarly to an affiliate marketing program where different people (partners) promote products and services to their audiences in exchange for rewards. These are almost always financial (a commission), but can include other benefits as well. We’ll go into this in more depth later.

To track the sales that your partners referred, businesses often use a tracking software like Tapfiliate. This way you can easily see who referred which sales, and what rewards they are entitled to. It saves time and tracking is automated.

What to Consider Before Starting Your Partner Program

When you are thinking about starting a partner program, there are definitely lots of moving parts to think about.

What Resources Do You Have?

Before anything else, it’s essential to understand what resources you have available to you, both in terms of finances, but also in terms of manpower.

You need to understand how much money you are prepared to spend on setting up your partner program, but also how much money you are prepared to give your partners for a sale.

Additionally, if you are using tracking software, that comes at a price (with Tapfiliate prices start at $89 per month with our essential plan, but we offer a 17% discount for an annual plan) – you’ll need to work out a budget before you set out on your journey.

The next thing is that you need to look at manpower. Do you have someone who has the time to dedicate to nurturing the partner program? Partner programs often need someone at the helm, finding partners to recruit, and nurturing current partners. Without that, you are relying on partners finding you themselves and being promoted as and when your partner feels like it. It’s much better to have good relationships with your partners, and organize campaigns to drive revenue for the both of you. You want to maximize your results and having someone to manage it is key to this.

What are Your Goals for Your Partner Program?

Once you’ve established your budget and resources for your partner program, the essential next step is to define your goals. What do you want out of your partner program? It’s a great idea to be specific about this, so you can measure the success of your goals.

Some goals might include increasing sales by 5% overall, or total partner revenue to make up 5% of your overall revenue. Other goals could include increasing word of mouth marketing on social media, increasing clicks by 5% on your website. It all depends on what you’re looking for.

Who are Your Ideal Partners?

With a partner program, choosing the right partner is essential to reaching your goals. Think about where your customers spend their time online. Also consider what you are selling. If you are selling ecommerce products, maybe instagram and bloggers would be a good fit for your partners. If you are a SaaS, maybe YouTube and LinkedIn would be a good place to start.

Remember, choosing the right partners is not only about the numbers. They might have amazing blog traffic, but their audience might not overlap with yours.

Look at a combination of things when choosing your partners:

Audience: who are they speaking to? Does this match up with your audience? It’s likely to fail if they are missing one of your key demographics.

Type of content: When you have figured out where your customer spends their time online, then you approach potential partners on those channels. Ask what content performs well with them? Ask about previous campaigns and what worked well for similar brands to you. What were the results of those campaigns – was it more sales, or only views and comments? Make an informed decision based on that.

Engagement: This isn’t always easy to tell when you can buy followers and join content engagement pods on social media to try and manipulate the algorithm, so it is less trustworthy and one the last things you look at for social media influencers.

The numbers: If you are working with a blogger, numbers are easier to show using analytics and search console data. For social media influencers, ask for previous affiliate campaign results.

It’s always a good idea to estimate your ROI. To do this, you’ll need to know your website conversion rate and your average order value.

Then if you can get it, the clickthrough rate from your chosen partner (if they don’t know you can make a conservative guess) and their number of visitors.

You will need to work out

  • How many people will click through from your partner’s website to yours
  • How many of those will convert.

For example, let’s say your chosen partner has 400,000 unique visitors per month, and a 0.5% clickthrough rate.

This means that 2000 people will click through to your website.

Your conversion rate is 3%, and your average order value is $100

Of those 2000 people who visit your website, 60 people will convert.

Your predicted revenue is $6000.

It’s a great idea to run the numbers with your chosen partner to see if they would make a positive impact on your revenue.

Of course, there are also exceptions to the rule, and you should look at each individual partner holistically.
